Jazz Band
 

This is a select, audition-only group. Students spend the year studying improvisation and several styles of music, including Latin, swing, funk and rock in both the big band and the combo setting. This is a performance-based class and is designed to provide high-level performance opportunities while promoting an increased understanding of instrumental performance through a standards-based curriculum. 

 

Students audition the previous spring while new and incoming students may audition for unfilled positions as they become available. Students must pass an entrance audition consisting of scales, prepared pieces, and sight reading. Students must also play an appropriate jazz band instrument and have instructor permission to join the group.

           

The jazz band is considered a secondary music class.  Students must maintain concurrent enrollment in their regular band or orchestra class in order to participate in Jazz Band.
